@MuaLan2301 Just a demonstration of what it's like to perform without the lion so people understand some of the movements. Nice to actually see them using deep stances which sometimes gets obscured by the tail, and some groups don't even do anymore.

@neva2muchrice , yes, I agree. we set-up the snake cheng with the butterfly-knives facing 'straight down' for the fangs, and the oranges sit in the handles for the snake's eyes. but, every school does it differently.

I'm confused...I was taught that if there's an X anywhere in the cheng setup then that's death to the lion if he were to solve the puzzle. There's an obvious X with the butterfly knife crossing each other. I mean, I know every school is different and cheng are interpreted differently too but I think this is an important factor that can be made clear before the owner take away the li xi.

How's the back now my old friend? FYI-The picking of the first three stars is in reference to the ladel or handle of the big dipper. The next four stars is representative the of the cup of the big dipper. The reason it is not in the actual shape of the dipper is that this was to test the lion dancer to think outside the box. BTW is you encounter one where they actually used 7 water bottles, you realize you have to dring the water before it is expelled don't you-haha

@giochanni FYI some of those teams you mentioned started all that, the fireworks and extra flare to performances. open your mind to new things, youll be surprised.

Great job guys! I'm also a 43 year young lion dance performer! We just performed for over 5 hours in the Chinese New Year's celebrations in Seattle and it took me close to three days for my lower back, neck, and legs to feel normal again! Do you guys practice kung fu as well? Your stances look great and similar to Hung Gar that I practice. Keep up the great work and let's continue to show the "young ones" how it's done! :-)

Are you implying that East Asian teams have a lock on what's right and what's wrong? And yes I have seen them include choreography for the musicans. I've also seen very well known and respected traditional teams do some pretty untraditional things. Guess we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one. It's good to show respect to all teams who take the time to come up with creative routines, practice hard and spread the art.
